Issues of NEO


NEO is interested in prose and poetry of high quality and serious intent. Each submission should be clearly marked with a name and address along with an email and/or telephone number. Please include a short contributor's note citing publications, awards, etc. (if any). Simultaneous submissions are amenable provided that we are informed if work has been submitted elsewhere and notified immediately upon its acceptance. We generally do not accommodate previously published work. All submissions should be typed (hand-written work will not be considered). Payment is in copies.

Fiction / Creative Nonfiction: Submissions should not exceed 10,000 words.

Poetry: Send up to five poems, or no more than ten pages. Poems longer than one page should be clearly marked as such [“poem” page 1 of 2] and "stanza break" or "no stanza break" should be indicated at the bottom of each page.

NEO is open to most kinds of fiction and poetry. To get a sense of what we publish, we suggest you read a few issues. Subscriptions and past issues are available for purchase online.

Manuscripts can be submitted in one of two ways: via regular mail or (attachments are encouraged). The following manuscript preparation guidelines for submitting work electronically are helpful to us: word processing guidelines. We cannot be responsible for lost, corrupt, or unreadable electronic submissions. We ask that you take special care to scan attachments for malicious content prior to sending them out. If you are submitting via regular mail and would like your work returned, please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE), or if living outside Portugal, an envelope together with an International Reply Coupon (IRC). We cannot be responsible for delay, loss, damage, or insufficient funds for return of manuscripts.

NEO accepts submissions from September 1 to May 31. Expect three to five months for a decision.
